Crystals, Gold and Cops for Prospero Productions

Prospero Productions’ strong pipeline of real-life drama continues with three new shows for the small screen, with production support from Screenwest and Lotterywest.

The Fremantle-based production company’s real-life series about policing the world’s largest single police jurisdiction – West Coast Cops – is currently screening on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Outback Crystal Hunters is back with Season 2 and is now in post-production and new series Hunting Outback Gold has kicked off production in WA.

“Prospero has a real talent for turning real-life events into engaging, entertaining and deeply human stories,” said Melissa Hayward, Screenwest Documentary Executive.

West Coast Cops premiered on Channel 9 and 9Now last week (March 28), following the lives of seven British police officers who trade the streets of the United Kingdom for the vast landscape of Western Australia – the world’s largest single police jurisdiction, spanning 2.5 million kilometres.

The eight-part observational documentary series, narrated by Lisa McCune, shows how the officers navigate life in the remote community of Halls Creek, undergo rigorous training at the WA Police Academy in Joondalup and metropolitan policing across Perth, while supporting their families, finding new homes and learning to live thousands of kilometres away from loved ones.

After Season 1 saw the hunters unearth Australia’s largest amethyst cluster weighing 21 tonnes, Outback Crystal Hunters is back for a second season.

Season 2 follows seven teams of treasure hunters as they journey across the Australian landscape in the hope of discovering the world’s most rare and beautiful crystals.

Hunting Outback Gold tracks an intrepid team on their search to find a fortune, taking inspiration from the tragic death of gold prospector Harrold Lasseter in the 1930s and his quest to rediscover a vast reef of gold.

West Coast Cops is screening on Channel 9 and 9Now and Outback Crystal Hunters Season 2 and Hunting Outback Gold are set to premiere later this year, on 7mate and Channel 9 respectively.
